    The call letters stand for the 2 adjacent states the station serves….NH ( New Hampshire) and V (Vermont). The station was originally licensed to White River Junction, VT. Before the growth of FM, it was one of 3 AM stations that serves the Upper Valley area. The 2 others were WTSL in Lebanon, NH and WDCR (call letters for Dartmouth College Radio) in Hanover, NH. DCR was a commercial station owned by the College but operated entirely by students
