- The South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) is the official accreditation body for South Africa. Founded in 1996, SANAS is headquartered in Pretoria, South Africa. SANAS accreditation certificates are a formal recognition by the Government of South Africa that an organisation is competent to perform specific tasks. SANAS provides formal recognition to Laboratories (testing and calibration) to ISO/IEC 17025 and medical laboratories to ISO/IEC 17025 and/or ISO 15189 Certification bodies for Quality Management Systems and Environmental Management Systems to ISO/IEC 17021 (and the IAF interpretation), Inspection bodies to ISO/IEC/17020.
