What does BOTG mean in Military?

This page is about the meanings of the acronym/abbreviation/shorthand BOTG in the Governmental field in general and in the Military terminology in particular.

Boots on the Ground

The philosophy of having ground forces such as soldiers and marines actually in a theater of conflict to engage an enemy, as opposed to indirect military action through arial bombardments, via off shore fleets, or missiles that can bring the "fight" to an enemy without putting one's own men and women in harms way. The term has gained significant popularity since 2001 when the United States invaded Afghanistan, and has come to be largely associated with counter-insurgency operations. More recently though, the humanitarian and NGO sector has began to co-opt the term in an effort to counter the negative stereo-type that the term has begun to attach to countries such as the United States as being occupiers or invaders.
