What does PRE-K mean?
- Pre-kindergarten is a classroom-based preschool program for children below the age of six in the USA, which may be delivered through a preschool or within a reception year in Elementary school. Pre-kindergartens, which play an important role in early childhood education, have existed in the USA since 1922, normally being run by private organizations. 'Head Start Program', the first federally funded pre-kindergarten program in the USA, was founded in 1965. This acts as a way to prepare children to better succeed in school. Only over the last few decades have pre-kindergarten programs become necessary for mothers to enter the workforce.
