  Many years ago, on the "The Don Lane Show" (1975 to 1983) there was an American guest star; 'Liza Minelli' who told us that many years previous, there was a group of top executives, involved in film making in Hollywood and they would get together to congratulate each other with their latest endevours. Initially this consisted of a few drinks at a local bar, then developed into giving each other a few small gifts.
  After a while, these gifts took on a substancial size and they started to put them (for safe keeping) in a warehouse ... I foget where she said it was. The janitor who looked after this warehouse was a guy called 'Oscar', they would call their 'gifts' Oscars inferring to, that's where they would end up, with the janitor (Oscar). The Oscars eventually developed into what we know today. The image of a janitor leaning on his broom, developed into a 'none descript' figure leaning on a sword.
  Anyway ... that's what I remember Liza Minelli telling Don Lane on live TV back in the 70's. more »
