What does homologous chromosome mean?

Homologous chromosome
Homologous chromosomes are pairs of chromosomes which contain a paternal and maternal copy. These copies have the same genes in the same locations, or loci, as one another. This allows them to pair correctly with one another before separating during mitosis or meiosis. The homologous chromosomes randomly segregate, experience genetic recombination, pair up, and separate into two different daughter cells. This is the basis for Gregor Mendel’s laws of genetics.
