Canada Pension Plan Investment Board
The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), a.k.a. CPP Investments manages the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), which is a pension plan funded by mandatory contributions from employers and employees. The CPPIB was established by an Act of Parliament in 1997, to invest the funds of the CPP, which had been created in 1966. The CPPIB is accountable to Parliament and to federal and provincial ministers, who serve as the CPP stewards, but it is governed and managed independently from the CPP itself. The fund was worth C$420 billion at the end of 2019.
