This abbreviation and its translation appears in Tony White’s NHSJargon Explained, but is not defined. Those curious enough to surf the web will find a number of non-OED definitions, one seemingly ruder than the next. If one assumes Mssr White was referring to the least indelicate of the definitions–that of a grotesquely obese person–woe betide the doctor brash enough to put that abbreviation on a patient’s medical record, should the notes fall under the scrutiny of a eagle-eyed solicitor.
