What does CMLC mean in Construction?

Construction: CMLC stands for Cement Mortar Lined and Covered and is typically used to describe a treatment given to steel pipe for added D-loading capabilities and corrosion resistance.

CMLC Pipe is used in applications of larger buried water conveyance running long distances in mainly in regions where the native soils are of a corrosive nature. As water is a near universal solvent and most piping needs to remain ductile while also being cost efficient to install the piping selected is often a ferrous metal thus adding to its lack of corrosion resistance. Alternative coatings are costly or lack some of the performance characteristics that a Cement Mortar coating can provide. But as no coating system is 100% perfect a corrosion resistance plan and system such as cathodic protection should be put in place to protect and monitor the pipes corrosion "health" while in use to compliment and supplement the materials and coatings of the pipe.
