In the state of Gujarat and Maharashtra from the middle of the 1500s through the 1900s, the Gajjar of a village would be a member of the village business committee and they are mostly associated with business of carpentry and not limited to construction, engineering, architecture. Gajjar is now also used as a surname among communities like Gurjar Suthar, Mevada, Vaishanav, Mistry, and some 108 other surnames of the Gajjar. Also Gajjar is a mostly used surname amongst Suthar Vishwakarma caste community. Also a number of People settled in Rajkot, Ahemdabad, Surat, Navsari, Vapi, Mumbai, Nasik, Pune, Africa, England & USA.
