- Industrious English writer, born London, 1767. He was hosier, bookseller, printer, publisher, republican, Sheriff of London (1807–8), and Knight. He compiled many schoolbooks, chiefly under pseudonyms, of which the most popular were the Rev. J. Goldsmith and Rev. D. Blair. His own opinions are seen most in his Million of Facts. Died at Brighton 2 April, 1840.
