Definition
What does JTTF mean?
- Joint Terrorism Task Force
- A Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) is a partnership between various federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, as well as the D.E.A. Joint Task Force Enforcement and private organizations, that are charged with taking action against terrorism which includes the investigation of crimes such as wire fraud and identity theft. The agencies that a JTTF comprises generally include federal law enforcement agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), U.S. Secret Service (USSS), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS), U.S. Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID), U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and state and local law enforcement agencies.JTTFs engage in surveillance, electronic monitoring, source development and interviews in their pursuits. FBI task forces obtain written memoranda of understanding (MOUs) between participating law enforcement agencies. The FBI provides funds to pay for participating agencies' expenses, such as officer overtime, vehicles, fuel, cell phones, and related office costs. The Australian Federal Police's Joint Counter Terrorism Teams, Canada's Integrated National Security Enforcement Teams, and the United Kingdom's National Counter Terrorism Policing Network can be seen as analogous to the Joint Terrorism Task Force model.
