Ontario Civilian Police Commission

The Ontario Civilian Police Commission is an independent oversight agency part of the Safety, Licensing Appeals and Standards Tribunals Ontario which reports to the Ministry of the Attorney General. The Commission’s mandate includes both investigative and adjudicative powers. The Commission is responsible for ensuring that adequate and effective police services are provided throughout Ontario. Its oversight powers are an important element of the civilian governance structure set out in the Police Services Act. To ensure compliance with the Act, the Commission has the authority to investigate policing related matters, hold different types of hearings, and make recommendations with respect to the delivery of police services in a community.
